Entry into force of the new EU Contaminants Regulation 2023/915 and repeal of Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 on 25 May 2023

The previous contents of Regulation (EC) 1881/2006 have been taken over. New additions include Article 3, which refers to dried, diluted, processed and compound foods and how maximum levels for contaminants are to be handled by the food business operator.

The new contaminants Regulation (EU) 2023/915 contains maximum levels for:

• Mycotoxins
• Plant toxins
• Metals and other elements
• Halogenated persistent organic pollutants (dioxins and PCBs, PFAS)
• Contaminants formed during processing (PAHs, 3-MCPD and glycidyl fatty acid esters)
• Nitrate, melamine, perchlorate
